Liverpool have not yet given up on persuading Ibrahima Konate to sign a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds are concerned about the prospect of losing the 26-year-old on a free transfer in 2026, when his contract at Anfield is due to expire.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (30 June) that Liverpool may be forced to accept offers of between £40-50million for Konate if he does not sign a new deal.

Arne Slot’s side will ramp up talks further in the coming weeks with a final decision due before the September transfer deadline.

Liverpool remain hopeful of Konate agreement

Sources say Konate has rejected Liverpool’s initial offer of an extension and the club fear he could follow Trent Alexander-Arnold in leaving for free in 2026 – but are still hopeful of finding an agreement.

The France international can currently agree a free transfer move to foreign clubs next January.

Liverpool have already overcome two tricky contract negotiations in recent months, persuading Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk to pen two-year extensions at Anfield amid interest from elsewhere.

Konate has struck up a formidable partnership with fellow defender Van Dijk since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021.

He has made 132 appearances across all competitions since arriving, winning the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cup titles.

Gomez sets stance on Liverpool exit

Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (23 June) that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is happy at Anfield amid links with newly-promoted Leeds United and Sunderland.

Sources say Gomez is in no rush to quit Liverpool and will be keen to stay fit and available for the 2025-26 campaign after struggling with injury in the title-winning campaign.

It is believed potential moves for the versatile defender will be a non-starter with the player keen to remain at Liverpool.
