'Here we go!' - Fabrizio Romano: Everton agree £30m deal to sign 'frightening' star

Everton have agreed a deal to sign Villarreal striker Thierno Barry, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Toffees have been in the market to sign a new striker to compete with Beto for the number nine position this summer, after Armando Broja was allowed to return to Chelsea following his loan spell with the club, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has left the club following the expiry of his contract.

Now the club have seemingly got their top target ahead of rival clubs after agreeing a deal for the France Under-21 striker to join.

Barry, who has been described as 'frightening' for his ability and attributes despite his huge 6ft 4 frame, spent just one season with the La Liga side and impressed plenty, attracting interest from several Premier League sides as well as teams across the continent.

But it's Everton who have moved quickest and most decisively, and the 22-year-old will now become the club's second signing of the summer, after Carlos Alcaraz's loan move from Flamengo was made permanent.

The striker had already agreed personal terms ahead of a move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, after talks between the clubs and player intensified following his participation at the Under-21 European Championships.

Everton are also looking to strengthen other areas of their squad and have been linked with a move for World Cup winner Nicolas Tagliafico at full-back, while they are also hopeful of sealing new contracts for Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane to follow on from Jarrad Branthwaite's extension.
