Ruben Amorim did not shy away from following in the footsteps of Sir Alex Ferguson by upholding one important ethos from the former Manchester United manager.
The former Sporting CP head coach is the sixth permanent Manchester United manager at the Premier League club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired from football.
Ferguson is widely recognised as one of the best managers of all time and the 83-year-old Scotsman had a remarkable impact on world football during his career.
The legendary former United manager found success both during his time in the dugout at Old Trafford and during his prolific spell at Scottish side Aberdeen.
During his illustrious 26-year reign at Old Trafford, the Scot led the club to all 13 of their Premier League titles and Ferguson lifted a continental treble with United.
Ferguson bowed out of Old Trafford as Red Devils head coach in 2013, with United capturing their last Premier League title at the end of the 2012-13 campaign.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s message to Gary Neville still echoes at Old Trafford under Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim
Sir Alex Ferguson’s glittering Manchester United career included the incredible faith that the legendary former Aberdeen boss placed in the youth at the club.
The United youth academy was a place where Ferguson found incredible talent for his legendary teams of the past, including United’s famed ‘Class of ‘92’ members.
Gary Neville, who was one of the Class of ’92 success stories, spent his entire club playing career at Old Trafford under ex-United and Aberdeen manager Ferguson.
The 50-year-old Sky Sports pundit enjoyed a plethora of silverware success at Old Trafford, including lifting eight Premier League titles and two Champions Leagues.
Neville praised Ferguson’s impact at United after he opened up about how the Scot would put his “money where his mouth” was when it came to youth players.
“I remember him saying once: ‘Give young people a chance and they’ll amaze you, and they’ll run through barbed-wire fences,’” he told the UTD Podcast in 2024, as per Manchester United’s official website.
“And I always remember him saying that to me and he did put his money where his mouth was.
“A lot of people sort of have a ‘pathway for young people’ and stuff, but he did bring young players through and trusted them.
“And he said that, if you give them belief and confidence, they’ll amaze you.”

Gary Neville’s message from Sir Alex Ferguson spoke volumes about Ruben Amorim’s early reign at Man Utd
Ruben Amorim has had no easy start to life at Old Trafford after he replaced former United and Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at the Premier League club in 2024.
However, the 40-year-old United manager has already shown how important Ferguson’s words were amid the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.
United’s struggles deepened last season and the Red Devils’ form was erratic, but Amorim didn’t freeze out the youth and stick with established stars to yield results.
Amorim embraced the United first-team squad that he inherited and wasn’t afraid to roll the dice with players from the Red Devils’ youth academy and other signings.
Youngsters like Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven were among the standout performers, while the likes of Tyler Fredricson and Harry Amass received important minutes.
The United youth has been a core part of the ‘DNA’ at the club and Amorim has already silenced ideas that Ferguson’s belief in the youth won’t remain under him.
