Maxime Raynaud inks three-year rookie deal with Sacramento

First-round picks in the NBA Draft have a set salary based on their selection, but the second round comes with a bit more chaos.

After Scott Perry drafted seven-foot Maxime Raynaud with the 42nd pick in the second round last week, he’s inked a rookie contract.

According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, Raynaud has signed a “three-year, $5.95 million deal.”

Sacramento Kings signed No. 42 pick Maxime Raynaud to a three-year, $5.95 million deal, which is fully guaranteed the first two seasons and includes a third-year team option, sources told @hoopshype. Scotto clarified that the deal is fully guaranteed in the first two seasons with a team-option in year three.

Trading away Jonas Valanciunas, then signing Drew Eubanks, leaves a new-look center rotation and potential opportunity for the rookie Raynaud.

More on Maxime Raynaud

The seven-foot French big spent four seasons at Stanford, showing tremendous growth with each passing season — a similarity he shares with Clifford.

Raynaud averaged 20.2 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in his 33.5 minutes over 35 games played last season. He was the only NCAA Division-1 player to tally 20 points and 10 rebounds per game last season.

Utilizing his 7’1 wingspan, the 22-year-old had 50 blocks in 25 games. But he wasn’t a typical, low-usage second-round big man.

Raynaud led Stanford in field goal attempts (16.1) while converting 46.7 percent. But potentially his most impressive skill set was his ability to shoot 34.7 percent on 5.5 three-point attempts per game.

Projected to be a first-rounder by most mocks, ABC10’s Matt George says Raynaud wanted to land with the Kings.

Mike Brown had an intriguing tenure as head coach of the Sacramento Kings. After joining them in 2022, Brown posted a 107-88 record with the organization, including a 48-34 season in his first year there that successfully ended Sacramento’s 16-year playoff drought.

Brown was named the unanimous NBA Coach of the Year in 22-23, his second time winning the honors. Thirty-one games into his third season with the Kings, they let go of Brown. It was a move that plenty viewed as premature while Doug Christie was promoted to interm before being named the long-term coach this offseason.

Still being paid by Sacramento, Brown was a strong candidate for the New York Knicks head coach opening following Tom Thibodeau’s tenure.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Wednesday morning that New York is “expected to land on two-time NBA Coach of the Year Mike Brown.”
