Liverpool forced to accept Ibrahima Konate offer after new contract rejected

Liverpool might have to accept offers for Ibrahima Konate as the French defender has reportedly rejected a new contract from the club.

Konate’s current Liverpool deal runs until 2026, but the player seems unhappy with the terms. His contract currently earns him only £70k per week — a figure much lower than many Premier League defenders and even his Liverpool teammates.

His centre-back partner and club captain, Virgil van Dijk, is among the highest earners at Liverpool, reportedly making nearly £320k per week. Earlier this year, the club extended the contracts of both Van Dijk and Egyptian star Mohamed Salah until 2027.

As per Football Insider, Konate didn’t like the offer tabled by Liverpool and rejected the new deal. The club now faces the risk of losing him for free in 2026 if they fail to cash in soon.

Which club might offer for Ibrahima Konate?

The 26-year-old Frenchman has reportedly been a long-time target of European giant Real Madrid. Earlier reports suggest the Spanish club is already planning a move to sign him on a free transfer in 2026.

Another possible destination could be the Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain. The French club might try to sign him this summer, as they are also looking to reinforce their defence. Konate may also see PSG as a preferred option due to his nationality and playing ambitions.

Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia is reportedly interested in bringing him on board and could offer a substantial financial package. However, it seems unlikely that Konate will leave Europe at this time, as he is still eager to compete at the highest level.

Liverpool knows they might lose Konate, so they are preparing for that possibility. They are looking at Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as a strong option to replace him.
