Jaguars fans — will Travis Hunter have 750+ receiving yards in the 2025 regular season?
And will he have 5+ receiving touchdowns?
(These numbers are Hunter’s props on FanDuel Sportsbook.)
“We’ll have a plan right now of primarily on offense,” head coach Liam Coen said after Hunter was drafted, “with learning the defensive system and practicing on the defensive side of the ball as well throughout this offseason program.”
That plan was reflected during rookie minicamp and team OTAs. Long story short, Hunter figures to play on most offensive snaps and some defensive snaps.
For a near-full-time receiver who was a 2nd overall pick, 750 yards doesn’t seem like a lot.
In the past 15 years, 14 of 20 wideouts who were a top-10 pick reached 750 yards as a rookie.
Ja’Marr Chase — 1455 yards
Malik Nabers — 1204 yards
Garrett Wilson — 1103 yards
Amari Cooper — 1070 yards
A.J. Green — 1057 yards
Mike Evans — 1051 yards
Jaylen Waddle — 1015 yards
Sammy Watkins — 982 yards
Julio Jones — 959 yards
DeVonta Smith — 916 yards
Marvin Harrison Jr. 885 yards
Drake London — 866 yards
Justin Blackmon — 865 yards
Josh Gordon — 805 yards
Rome Odunze — 734 yards
Tavon Austin — 418 yards
Corey Davis — 375 yards
Kevin White — 187 yards
Mike Williams — 95 yards
John Ross — 0 yards
One could argue Hunter was a top-two pick because he’s a special player rather than a special receiver. Still, his otherworldly athleticism will be fully displayed by Coen’s system.
One way Coen manufactures touches for his playmakers is with screen packages. Tampa Bay led the league in yards gained on passes behind the line of scrimmage last year, as three different Bucs players ranked top 12 in screen targets per game (per Ryan Heath).
Even with Brian Thomas Jr. commanding a large target share, Hunter will have plenty of opportunities with the ball in his hands.
That happens to be the rationale behind ‘Hunter to score five times’ being a lock. Even if Hunter doesn’t play on offense as much as expected and/or his development as a receiver comes along slowly, you can bet that Coen will have some special stuff planned for Hunter in the red zone. It’d be borderline foolish not to feature Hunter’s creation in space and toughness at the catch while in scoring position, and in general, a first-time regime is gonna want the guy they traded two first-rounders for to frequent the endzone.
FanDuel has numerous longshot bets for Hunter as well:
Hunter to record 1000+ receiving yards (+230 odds)
Hunter to record 75+ receptions and 2+ interceptions (+250)
Hunter to score 10+ total touchdowns on offense and defense (+700)
Hunter to win Offensive Rookie of the Year (+900)
Hunter to win Defensive Rookie of the Year (+1000)
Hunter to record 5+ offensive touchdowns & 1+ defensive touchdown (+1200)
Hunter to score 1+ touchdown & 1+ Interception in season debut (+1600)
Hunter to record 750+ receiving yards & 5+ interceptions (+1700)
Hunter to win MVP (+20000)
Of these, my favorite bet would be ‘Hunter to score 10 times’ or ‘Hunter to score 5 times on offense and once on defense’. OROY is enticing, but a) quarterbacks usually win that award and b) it’s hard to imagine any rookie skill player being more productive than Ashton Jeanty.
