Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta continues to be handed multiple transfer twists with the summer window entering a crucial period. A majority of Premier League clubs were able to confirm arrivals in June but the Gunners opted against doing so likely due to financial reasons.
With July arriving, a new financial year has begun and that basically means clubs have more breathing room to sanction signings. That was evidenced by Arsenal opting to confirm the arrival of Kepa Arrizabalaga on the first of the month.
Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard are expected to join him in having their moves to Arsenal from Real Sociedad and Brentford, respectively, confirmed. A deal for Cristhian Mosquera of Valencia is also actively being pursued.
Following that, attacking additions will become the clear priority for Andrea Berta with multiple striker twists and turns arriving. With all of that being said, football.london has taken a look at the latest Arsenal transfer news and rumours as pre-season nears.
Gyokeres boost
French outlet L'Equipe have claimed that Arsenal are close to agreeing personal terms for Gyokeres. Negotiating a fee with Sporting will be another matter entirely however as they have, at least in the eyes of Gyokeres and his representatives, already changed his asking price.
A package totalling £59million (€70m) was seen as enough in the early stages of the summer window but it is now believed they are demanding £69million (€80m).
football.london says: With a deal for Benjamin Sesko stalling, it makes sense that positive updates on Gyokeres are emerging. Even with all the noise of agreements and advanced talks, it looks as though a final decision over which striker to pursue has not been made just yet.
As pre-season is right around the corner, Berta and Arteta must soon decide the centre-forward they will be going all out for. That is because a further two deals on top of that are likely to be pursued with it important that the majority of those are completed before Sunday, August 17.
Sesko and Gyokeres are two very different profiles and that is why it is vitally important they bring in the right player. Either way, a significant amount of funds must be committed.
Striker 'agreement'
While Arsenal are still deciding on the striker they want to sign, Juventus have made their move, after Gyokeres rejected a move, as they have agreed to sign Jonathan David as a free agent, as per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
The Canada international departed Lille at the end of the 2024/25 season with Chelsea, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham all showing an interest. However, he will now be moving to Italy with a long-term contract ready to be signed.
football.london says: For the last six months, David has been able to agree a pre-contract and therefore it is a surprise it has taken this long for his next move to be decided. It is not a shock that he has secured a big move though, given how consistently he has scored goals over the last few years.
Considering the finances involved, Juventus have seemingly got themselves a steal as opposed to paying a significant fee and wages for Gyokeres. With another outsider option off the table, Arsenal must soon intensify their efforts on Gyokeres or Sesko.
Reaching an agreement with Valencia for Mosquera may be the first priority with that deal advanced but then all the focus will be on attacking signings.
