Man United have made one signing so far this summer window as part of Ruben Amorim’s squad rebuild.

Manchester United are hoping to secure several summer signings who can help improve Ruben Amorim’s side compared to last year, which produced a disastrous 15th-place finish in the Premier League and a lack of silverware.

But, looking at United’s current squad, they have already added some attacking firepower in the form of Matheus Cunha. They signed him from Wolves, and many are excited to see just how well he can perform come the new season.

Ex-Man United assistant hails Matheus Cunha signing

Last season, Cunha was one of the better attackers in the Premier League. He made 36 appearances in all competitions for Wolves, scoring 17 goals and providing six assists. The Brazilian will likely come in and play in one of Ruben Amorim’s number 10 roles behind a target man striker up front.

Former Man United first team coach Benni McCarthy exclusively told ManchesterWorld that he believes Cunha will flourish in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at Man United. McCarthy said: “Matheus Cunha is just what Manchester United need. They need a player starving for success.

“He will be coming in with a completely different mindset. He isn’t affected by what has happened before. This move is his dream, to play for a club like United. He’s a raw talent, from the streets of Brazil. I think he will be a player that can flourish under Amorim. He’s coming in with a manager who understands him, speaks his language, with no communication barrier. That’s a huge plus to help him settle.

“I think Amorim is going to put his arm around him and make him feel special. He needs to be treated like a special player. We need someone who is an animal, who’s used to struggling. United are in the wilderness, and we need animals who know how to survive.

“United have been bullied over the last few years. We didn’t have players who would get stuck in. Cunha will. He’ll take the fight to people, and players will follow him. But we don’t have those leaders anymore.”

What has Cunha said about joining Manchester United?

The Brazilian international has all the talent imaginable, as we saw at Wolves, and he was ready for his move to a big club like Man United. He had told the higher-ups at Molineux that he wanted to fight for trophies at a big club, his ambition matches Amorim’s ideals.

Upon signing for United, Cunha told Man United’s official website: “It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player. Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt.

“I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

It is fair to say that the 26-year-old is ready to compete with Man United. If McCarthy is right, then the Brazilian attacker could help Man United get back towards the top of the Premier League table.
