All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they step up their summer business.
Arsenal are now ramping up their summer transfer business after a slow first few weeks of the summer in terms of completed deals. Kepa Arrizabalaga has penned a deal to become the club’s new number two goalkeeper, and more deals are now expected to follow.
The Gunners are now concentrating on their new striker signing, and one is certainly required before the new season. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Gyokeres latest
The latest in Arsenal’s striker search is that the Gunners are still in talks with Sporting CP over the potential signing of Viktor Gyokeres. Fabrizio Romano has told GiveMeSport: “Nothing done or agreed yet club to club. It’s absolutely ongoing in terms of interest and contacts but nothing agreed or close yet.”
Arsenal are still said to be weighing up a deal for Benjamin Sesko, and it’s likely Mikel Arteta will have to choose between one or the other over the coming weeks amid limited options elsewhere.
Simons and Mosquera claims
Arsenal have been tipped to have an interest in RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons this summer. Ben Jacobs has told The Boot Room: “There’s an outside chance depending on what the final price is, and this is more left-field because he is a central attacking midfielder, but Xavi Simons is one that Arsenal really like. We know Tottenham have looked as well and the player is very keen on a move to the Premier League.
“The challenge is that it was a complicated deal that saw him go to Leipzig, the total outlay was €80m (£70m) and the guaranteed fee was €50m, but if he leaves so soon, a lot of those add ons would not be paid. There’s a window of opportunity, so I would keep a small eye on Arsenal, but I don’t want to get anyone over excited needlessly.”
Jacobs also spoke to the same website about Arsenal’s bid to wrap up a deal for Valencia talent Cristhian Mosquera. He said: “The player wants to join, simple as that. And I expect this deal to get done. That would be three through the door and Arsenal would be very pleased with that,” Jacobs said.
“For Arsenal it’s been about finding someone with a younger profile who is willing to wait a little bit because it’s obvious if William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are fit they will cover those positions. This is a profile Arsenal like because they feel he will be patient, he’s versatile, he’s excellent at winning duels, he’s intelligent in reading the game and he covers other positions where he doesn’t traditionally play.”
Arsenal are attempting to secure a low fee deal for Mosquera due to the fact the young defender is out of contract next year, but Valencia will try to hold out for around £17million. Los Ché could have signed Mosquera to a new deal early in the summer, but they dragged their feet and that led to a window of opportunity for Arsenal.
