Arsenal now "unlikely" to sign £72m striker despite being in talks for weeks - club insider

Arsenal are unlikely to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko this summer, a club insider has revealed.

The Gunners are reportedly unwilling to match Leipzig’s valuation of the Slovenia international, which stands at around €83m (£72m) and remains too steep despite their long-standing interest in Sesko.

Arsenal have struggled to make any progress in their pursuit of the 22-year-old forward so far and are now likely to turn to other targets, with Sporting Lisbon ace Viktor Gyokeres still an option.

Sesko was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer before he penned a new five-year contract with the Bundesliga club.

The Slovenia international is coming off a career-best season in Germany, with 21 goals and six assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

Sesko is believed to be keen on a switch to Arsenal this summer and joining forces with Mikel Arteta, who remains on the lookout for several reinforcements to his frontline.

The Gunners are prioritising a move for a new number nine and also aim to bring in a new wide forward, with Crystal Palace ace Eberechi Eze being targeted.

Arsenal's summer business has gathered pace in recent days, as they announced Kepa Arrizabalaga as their first signing on Tuesday.

The Spain international has joined the North London club on a three-year deal from Chelsea, where he made 163 appearances.
