Man Utd advance to sign £60m man as £68.3m star agrees Arsenal move – Report

Viktor Gyokeres Sporting CP

Another day, another story on Manchester United’s and Arsenal’s efforts to improve their center forward positions and we have another twist.

Yesterday, reports in the media indicated that the Gunners are closing in on signing Benjamin Sesko, leaving Man Utd clear to land £68.3m-rated Gyokeres from Sporting CP.

However, the latest reports indicate that Gyokeres has agreed to move to Arsenal and now, Man Utd are focusing on hiring the services of Ollie Watkins.

As per today’s version of The Mirror, the Red Devils are advancing in their efforts to secure the striker from Aston Villa, who are demanding a fee of £60m for their prized asset.

United have decided to make a strong effort, however, they do not want to spend £60m for a player, who will turn 30 in December this year and lacks resale value.

As far as Gyokeres is concerned, the 20-time English champions are ‘convinced’ that the Swedish star striker has agreed to move to the Emirates this summer.

According to a story covered by O Jogo today, the 27-year-old has stressed that he wants to sign for the north London club.

Should Man Utd settle for Ollie Watkins?

Ollie Watkins has proved his worth in the Premier League with Brentford and Aston Villa. Overall, he has made over 180 appearances in the competition and scored 75 goals.

Last season, he featured in 54 games in all competitions under Unai Emery and directly contributed in no fewer than 31 goals (17 goals and 14 assists).

He has scored 5 goals in 18 appearances for the senior international England side, none more important the injury time winner he netted in the semi final of the European Championships against the Netherlands last year.

Watkins would clearly be an upgrade over Hojlund and Zirkzee at Old Trafford but signing a 29-year-old would only be a short-term fix for Man Utd.

Amorim needs a clinical finisher who can serve the club for years but with no European football next season, the options are limited.
