Brentford have missed out on one of their transfer targets who looks to poised to join Sunderland, with Leeds United also linked
Brentford transfer target Noah Sadiki is set to move to the Premier League - but is heading north despite the Bees submitting a bid for the midfielder.
Union SG value the player at £17.3m as he is still under contract at the club until 2027 and at the age of 20, has plenty to offer going forward. He played 39 times in the league last term and won the Belgian Pro League. He has already been capped nine times at international level by DR Congo.
However, the Sunderland Echo has now reported that Sadiki’s valuation has been met by newly-promoted Sunderland who have reached an agreement over a €20million (£17.3m) package for the player.
Noah Sadiki bound for Sunderland with medical on Wednesday
The Sunderland Echo also reported that the player was undergoing a medical at the club on Wednesday. So far this summer, Brentford have signed Michael Kayode, Romelle Donovan and Caoimhin Kelleher. They have appointed Keith Andrews as their new manager with confirmation of that coming last week.
Sadiki could have proved a shrewd signing for the Bees as he has already shown impressive potential. He can play as at full-back, centre-back, defensive midfield and central midfield and has experience of winning trophies after picking up the Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup along with his Belgian Pro League winners medal.
He came through the academy at Belgian giants Anderlecht and was handed his senior debut by former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany.
The report from the Sunderland Echo adds: “Sunderland's swift move to meet the Belgian club's asking price means they are now expected to win the race for his signature.”
Noah Sadiki could have been long-term Christian Nørgaard replacement
The Dane has made 196 appearances since joining Brentford from Fiorentina in 2019 but the Gunners are looking for depth in their midfield and are close to a move for the Brentford man.
“I think Christian's been a really, really big player for this football club,” said new head coach Andrews. “I've seen it first-hand last year, obviously primarily in a set-piece capacity, how he led, his qualities as a footballer, but probably more importantly as a person. I think he's a top, top human being. I really believe that.
"It's (going to provide) opportunities for others, and (there are players) that I know will take the opportunity in the building."
