Report: How Wolves are set to react if Nasser Djiga completes loan move to Rangers

Nasser Djiga could be on his way out of Wolves just six months after joining.

The Burkina Faso centre-back only arrived at Molineux in a £10 million deal from Red Star Belgrade at the start of the year.

But now, the youngster is being lined up for a temporary move away.

Nasser Djiga has only made six appearances for Wolves so far, and in the second half of 2024/25, he struggled to dislodge the likes of Toti Gomes, Emmanuel Agbadou and Matt Doherty from the back three.

Opportunities were few and far between for him, and now a move to Scotland could be on the cards.

Wolves fans believe Djiga heading to Rangers would be a good move, and if it happens it would only be a straight loan, with no option to buy.

Djiga could do with a loan move.

Currently, he is perhaps at the very bottom of the pecking order at Wolves when it comes to centre-backs.

Yerson Mosquera should be fully fit for the start of the 2025/26 season, and Pereira has already hinted the Colombia international could be someone he turns to.

MORE WOLVES STORIES

The Express & Star have reported that Djiga’s loan move would not prompt Wolves to dip into the transfer market if he leaves the club.

The club are not planning to replace him directly if he goes.

It’s suggested the only way Wolves move for another centre-half is if another player departs.

So any move for another defender would likely depend on Santiago Bueno or Mosquera departing, as there is surely no chance of Agbadou, Toti or Doherty leaving.

Djiga needs loan move

Wolves would be doing Djiga a favour by loaning him out this summer.

He’s not had much game time at Molineux so far, which is no real surprise because Vitor Pereira needed to call on the experienced trio of Agbadou, Toti and Doherty while Wolves were still fighting relegation.

Then Pereira insisted he wasn’t one to hand out token minutes, and still didn’t really play Djiga at the end of season.

So hopefully he’ll seal that move to Rangers, and play regularly in the Scottish top-flight.

It sounds as though there are no plans to get someone in to replace Djiga, meaning five centre-back options to fight for three positions.

That could be slightly risky, especially with Mosquera having had a poor injury record.

Given this, it may be in Wolves’ best interests to try and negotiate a recall option if Djiga does go to Rangers, just in case.
