Aston Villa's hopes of luring Marco Asensio back to the club on a permanent basis this summer could be hit by news that Turkish outfit Fenerbahce are keen on bringing the player to the Super Lig and have reportedly submitted a bid worth in the region of €15m to Paris Saint-Germain to acquire him.
joined in the second half of last season on a loan basis, helping the club to reach the quarter finals of the Champions League and semi-finals of the , scoring eight goals in 21 games across three different competitions. That contribution included a brace against Chelsea, a brace against Cardiff in the FA Cup and two more against Club Brugge.
The Spaniard, 29, has a single year left on his contract with European champions PSG, , but he would appear to have no future under boss Luis Enrique and has been given the green light to find himself a new club this summer.
Villa appeared favourites at the end of the season, despite missing out on Champions League football, to bring Asensio back to the Premier League on a long-term deal. He'd spoken in March about how much he was enjoying being in , working under compatriot Unai Emery and how quickly he'd settled into his surroundings at Bodymoor Heath.
After the Club Brugge last 16 win, a tie in which he scored three of Villa's six goals, Asensio said: "[I am] Very comfortable, Unai is very good for my position and how I can help the team. I am very comfortable, very happy with my teammates, the fans and the city!"
Now, Fenerbahce have put an offer on the table to PSG in a bid to snare Asensio themselves,
Manager Jose Mourinho has Fener in the third qualifying round of the Champions League and could offer Asensio a return to European football's top table in the event the club manage to pass through that round. Fener have released Edin Dzeko and Dusan Tadic at the ends of their contracts but are reportedly close to signing former Villan Jhon Duran on loan from Al-Nassr.
The Turkish giants, who signed Diego Carlos from Villa in January, are also in talks with PSG, who also won Ligue 1 and the French Cup last season to complete a treble, regarding a permanent deal for Milan Skriniar after his own successful loan move.
