Liverpool have the finances in place to up their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi after a £35million deal for defender Jarell Quansah was sealed with Bayer Leverkusen.
With Ibrahima Konate, 26, entering his final year on his Anfield contract, and uncertainty surrounding the Frenchman's future, the Premier League champions would benefit from bolstering their defensive line-up.
As 24-year-old England international Guehi has now reached the last 12 months of his Palace contract, the Eagles are keen not to let him slip away as a free agent, meaning a move to Liverpool could materialise in the coming weeks.
Arne Slot must also make a decision regarding the future of winger Luis Diaz, who played a big part in helping to secure a record-equalling 20th league title last campaign, but has attracted interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Here's the transfer updates from Anfield.

Liverpool are adamant about keeping hold of Luis Diaz this summer despite mounting interest in the Colombian winger, reports the Mirror.
Diaz, 28, has been linked with numerous clubs after the Reds' big-spending summer. He has two years left on his contract, but it's believed Liverpool have not yet offered him a new deal on improved terms.
Barcelona have long been fans of the winger and had a move rebuffed earlier this summer. They now seem to be shifting their focus towards Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams. They're also reportedly eyeing up Manchester United's Marcus Rashford.
Bayern Munich have recently shown interest in Diaz, with German reports suggesting that the Bundesliga team's sporting director Max Eberl had initiated talks about a potential transfer.
However, a formal approach from Bayern was rejected by the Premier League kings, who said they have no intention of selling Diaz and will not enter into discussions for the attacker.
Deployed as both a wide forward and a false no.9 by Slot, he scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the league as Liverpool won the title by 10 points last campaign.
The Dutch manager must decide whether he wants to make Diaz a pivotal part of his new look attack with Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah and co, either centrally or on the left flank, or whether long term he could be improved upon.

Jarell Quansah bid an emotional farewell to Liverpool upon finalising his Bayer Leverkusen transfer - a potential £35m windfall for the Reds.
Quansah - an England U21 defender who played a pivotal part in retaining their European U21 Championship title over Germany last weekend - finished up his move to the Bundesliga side on Wednesday.
In response to the move, he expressed: "From the moment I walked through the doors of the Academy at 5 years old, I dreamed of one day wearing the Liverpool shirt at Anfield.
"17 years later, I can now say I have lived that dream."

Liverpool are gearing up to make a move for Marc Guehi following the departure of Jarell Quansah. The Reds have their sights set on the Crystal Palace ace as their next summer signing.
Last week, it emerged that Liverpool bigwigs were closing in on a deal for the England defender, who was poised to be the club's latest high-profile recruit.
However, a few snags were delaying the agreement.
With Quansah now out of the picture, Liverpool are on the hunt for his replacement, and Guehi is tipped to fill those boots.
The Reds might even need another centre-back soon, with Konate's future hanging in the balance as he enters the final year of his contract.
