A QUARTET of teenagers from Nuneaton are hoping to represent Great Britain at an upcoming NFL Flag tournament.
A total of four young athletes from Nuneaton Jaguars hope to represent GB in the Olympic-bound sport.
The quartet – Will Taylor, Izzie McNeal, Emily Challinor and Frankie Taylor – will represent GB at the NFL Flag European Championships in Austria this September.
Will will play in the under-17 boys’ team with Izzie and Emily in the under-17 girls’ team and Frankie in the under-15 mixed team.
All four players earned their places in the respective squads as part of a national selection process after GB training camps took place at Loughborough College.
However, the trip to Austria is entirely self-funded. The families of the respective players have therefore organised a fundraiser to help with travel, accommodation and kit costs.
A fundraising bingo night will take place on Friday, July 18 at Weddington Social Club with all proceeds to go towards the four athletes.
The players have also launched a GoFundMe page, click HERE to donate.
Jaguars coach, Dave Winter said: “This is a great opportunity for these young people, and the whole community should be proud.
“NFL Flag is one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK and will be part of the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
“For these local athletes to already be competing at European level is huge and an absolute credit to the commitment and dedication they have for their sport.”
The teenagers, all aged between 14 and 17, also train at Nuneaton RFC.
Nuneaton Jaguars are a volunteer-run community club which offers NFL Flag sessions for boys and girls aged seven to 17-years-old.
NFL Flag is non-contact American Football.
