Liverpool are showing no indications of stopping in the transfer market this time. The Reds have been making recent headlines by signing some key players in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez. But, they’re not done yet.
Their latest target is Lyon’s 19-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana, as per journalist Miguel Delaney. He has been turning heads across Europe. Reports suggest the French side are demanding around £51.5m for the young star. The club is facing financial troubles following their relegation to Ligue 2, though they have a pending appeal.
Slot’s side believes that this could push the Ligue 1 side to have to sell players like Fofana; The Reds may want to act quickly as Tottenham, Chelsea, and many Serie A clubs are on the look out.
Planning Ahead with Fofana Directions
Liverpool’s move for Fofana will add more strength in depth. But, it is about finding replacements should players leave the club. The Reds still do not know the outcome of the summer links connecting both Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo to Bayern Munich. The club wants to invest for the future in younger, explosive players.
As recently as last week, Liverpool denied an approach for Diaz, but he is still doubt moving ahead. Fofana’s speed, flair, and technical ability would provide new life in the final third. He is already known to be open to a move to the Premier League.
He will be moving to a club just crowned league champions. That would see the 18-year-old playing under one of Europe’s most dynamic managers.
With the energy from their title triumph, the project that is in place, Liverpool’s pursuit of Fofana suggest he is already in their minds.
