According to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail, Liverpool FC have submitted an offer to sign 17-year-old striker Will Wright from League Two side Salford City. However, Manchester City are also preparing a counteroffer worth over £100,000, plus add-ons.

Will Wright has an interesting story: The 6-foot-3 striker was playing with regional setups in Euxton Villa and Fylde just two years ago, but has quickly become one of the hottest prospects after scoring 50-plus goals at all levels last season in his first full scholarship year.. He also made his senior debut for Salford as a substitute against Man City in the FA Cup third round last January. That taste of top-flight opposition likely left an impression, both on him and scouts watching from the stands.
Liverpool’s reputation for being able to nurture young talent and provide plausible pathways to the first team could very well be the deciding factor between the two clubs. Whatever happens, it should be fun watching Gary Neville decide between selling to his two most hated clubs.
