A decision regarding Callum Wilson’s Newcastle United future may have been made.
The 33-year-old’s Newcastle United contract officially expired at the end of June, yet there has been no confirmation on whether he has actually left the club or not.
The expectation has been that Callum Wilson would leave upon the expiry of his contract. That certainly felt like the case after the Magpies’ final game of the season against Everton, with Wilson appearing to wave goodbye to the fans.
However, it then emerged that he was in talks with Newcastle regarding a contract extension. The club’s retained list confirmed that ‘discussions’ with the striker’s representatives were ongoing, with some Newcastle fans shocked by the Wilson update.
Since then, there has been silence from Newcastle United. Despite his contract expiring on 30th June, there has been no official word on whether he is staying or going.

The report adds that John Ruddy’s situation remains unclear, with the veteran goalkeeper also in talks with the club about remaining on Tyneside. Ruddy is a target for Norwich City, but Toon officials would like him to stay at St James’ Park.
Wilson and Ruddy are the only two contract decisions that Newcastle United need to confirm, with the club announcing at the beginning of June that Jamal Lewis would be leaving the club upon the expiry of his deal. The left-back is now officially a free agent.
Where Callum Wilson could go next as Newcastle United exit nears
With Wilson on course to leave Newcastle United, his attention will turn to finding a new club.
He will likely have ambitions of remaining in the Premier League, having been a top flight player for the past 10 years with Bournemouth and the Magpies.
Fortunately for him, the England international could get the chance to continue plying his trade in English football’s top division. Burnley have been linked with Wilson, as they eye a new striker following promotion from the Championship. Leeds are also interested in Wilson, with Daniel Farke’s side in the same situation as Burnley.
They could both benefit from Wilson’s experience. While he failed to score a single Premier League goal during the 2024/25 season, Wilson still has a lot to offer. If he is given the opportunity to play regularly and be the main man up front, he should provide goals.
That is a luxury he can no longer be afforded at St James’ Park, with Alexander Isak becoming Eddie Howe’s star striker.
