The Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota has reportedly been killed in a car crash in Spain, according to reports in Spanish newspaper Marca.

The 28-year-old’s brother, Andre, is also reported to have been killed. The accident happened on the A-52 near the city of Zaragoza close to Spain’s north-west border with Portugal.

According to the news agency EFE quoting police sources, the two brothers were killed when their Lamborghini came off the Rías Bajas highway (A52) at kilometer 65, heading towards Benavente, shortly after midnight.

The sources consulted suggest that the car may have suffered a blowout of one of its tires while overtaking, causing it to leave the road and catch fire.

Jota got married just 11 days ago to Rute Cardoso in Porto. The forward is a father of three.
