Former Man Utd striker becomes free agent, a year after joining team of his‘heart’

Manchester United are not the only club trying to buy players and move others on this summer.

Every club in world football will be doing what they can to strengthen over the summer. Manchester United go into the 2025/26 campaign after a disastrous season, meaning they won’t have any Champions League for a second consecutive season.

United lost the Europa League final and finished 15th in the Premier League as Ruben Amorim endured a difficult first six months at Old Trafford. The Portuguese coach will hope to have a more equipped squad for next season, with more goals and fewer injuries, as United try to get back into Europe.

After scoring just 44 league goals last term, it’s no wonder that Amorim is seeking attacking additions this summer. United have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and had a second bid rejected for Bryan Mbeumo last week.

There is a possibility that Rasmus Hojlund could be sold with a replacement striker signed. The Dane scored just 10 goals in 52 appearances last season, which was six goals less than what he managed in his debut season for the club.

United have signed many strikers in recent years who weren’t good enough or past their best. Now, it’s time to sign a striker in their peak years with experience playing at the top level.

Radamel Falcao becomes free agent

Millonarios FC have announced that former United striker Radamel Falcao has decided not to continue and will become a free agent.

Falcao spent one season at Old Trafford on loan from Monaco, but he had already endured a serious knee injury during his time in France. The Colombia legend scored just four goals during his time at the club under Louis van Gaal.

However, the decision for Falcao to become a free agent comes just days after Millonarios suffered elimination in the Liga BetPlay DIMAYOR 2025-I semi-finals.

Respected journalist Fabrizio Romano shared an update on Wednesday night stating that Falcao had left Millonarios FC and he’s again available as a free agent, which would suggest he is not ready to give up on his playing career.

During his time at Millonarios, Falcao played 28 matches (15 as a starter, 12 as a substitute) and also made a single appearance in the CONMEBOL Sudamericana.

Falcao scored 11 goals during his time at Millonarios.

Emotional farewell for Falcao

It won’t be easy for Falcao to leave Millonarios.

When the experienced striker joined the Colombian outfit, Falcao made it clear it was his dream club. The club he had stored in his ‘heart’ throughout his life, even when he was playing in Europe.

Falcao had just one year with Millonarios and he will now seek another chapter in his incredible career.

If only he was 10 years younger, we might be talking about a United target here, considering Ruben Amorim wants to sign a new striker this summer.
