The Friedkin Group are starting to make good on their promise to back David Moyes this summer.

Since taking over ownership of Everton from the much-maligned Farhad Moshiri, TFG made bold statements about their ambitious intentions for the Blues.

It was music to the Toffees’ ears, who had suffered losing their best players over the last few years while scarcely making any permanent signings in a bid to keep the Merseyside club afloat.

A quiet start to this summer’s transfer window had the Everton faithful fearing the worst again. However, the turn of the month, which coincided with the beginning of a new financial year, has triggered some very welcome activity.

Jarrad Branthwaite signed a new contract with Everton, tying him to the club until 2030, and TFG now look set to make their first significant signing of the summer.

Everton seal deal to sign Thierno Barry

Although tying Branthwaite to a long-term deal was high on Moyes’ list of priorities, the Scotsman has been equally keen to bring in at least one striker, especially following the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Blues have been exploring numerous options, but seemed fixated on bringing in Valencia striker Thierno Barry for the best part of a month.

Negotiations with the Spanish club have not been smooth sailing, but as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X (2 July), a deal is finally in place to bring the striker to Everton.

The package is worth over £30million plus add-ons, with only formal steps left to be completed.

It will be seen as a massive coup for the Toffees, who had to beat rival Premier League clubs to the France Under-21 international’s signature.

Moyes’s demands won’t end there, and the acquisition of Barry could kickstart a summer spending spree as Everton look to make a positive start to life at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Barry is the perfect Moyes striker

Barry not only has all the attributes to succeed at Everton, but his profile perfectly fits the mould of striker Moyes typically looks for.

Club Apperances Goals Assists

Villarreal 37 11 4

Basel 41 20 5

SK Beveren 33 20 4

Barry’s senior club career record

The 22-year-old has quickly risen from the second division in Belgium to starring in La Liga, showing both the quality and character that the former Manchester United manager cherishes.

His height and athleticism put him in good stead to compete with the physicality of the Premier League, while his knack for being in the right areas in front of goal is an attribute Everton sorely miss.

Moyes has always had a soft spot for dominant centre-forwards with good positional understanding, like Barry, and will be excited to have a focal point up front for players like Iliman Ndiaye to feed off.
