Report: Everton eyeing 'one of the strongest' players at Roma after Wesley Franca trade mooted

Everton are in need of a new right-back this summer to provide Jake O’Brien some real competition for the starting spot.

David Moyes may also be keen to relieve O’Brien of the duties at right-back, with his natural position at centre-back.

There has been plenty of movement already on Merseyside, with Everton allowing Ashley Young to depart the club as a free agent.

The reality is Everton have a lot of positions needing to be addressed this summer.

However, Moyes has wanted a new right-back at Everton as a priority signing since he was appointed as manager in January.

And there is another player to enter the frame as a potential option for Angus Kinnear to explore.

Everton considering swoop for Zeki Celik

Everton have lost out on Kenny Tete, with the right-back deciding to remain at Fulham and ink a new deal in London.

This will have come as a real blow for the Toffees after their positive talks, but there is no time to dwell on the bad news.

According to Football Italia, Everton are one of a number of clubs eyeing a possible summer swoop for the Roma defender, Zeki Celik.

Tete’s snub has seen the Toffees return to the table for the Turkey international, with Roma not looking to extend his remaining two-year contract.

Despite securing Tete’s future, Fulham are also showing an interest along with Ajax and Besiktas.

Daniele De Rossi hailed Celik – in a 2023 press conference – as ‘one of the strongest’ players at the club during their time together.

Seamus Coleman has extended his Everton stay, but the capacity of his role at the club for the new season may be minimal when it comes to on-pitch action.

And with Everton’s injury record, quality squad depth is something which Moyes will be keen to have in place.

Everton also keen on Wesley Franca

It has also been reported that Everton are interested in Wesley Franca who is currently playing his football over in Brazil with Flamengo.

Interestingly, a deal for Franca could then see the Friedkins send him out immediately on loan to Roma.

If this was to be the case, Everton would still require some cover at right-back.

A move for Celik could make a lot of sense for all clubs involved, but he may not prove to be a long-term option if Everton are to land Franca, as well.
