Diogo Jota tribute planned as Portugal FA request minute's silence

Diogo Jota has passed away following a tragic car accident in Spain

Jota, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 26, who played for Portuguese second-division side Penafiel, have died following a car crash in Spain early on Thursday.

The crash happened just after midnight on Thursday morning on the A-52, close to Spain's north-west border with Portugal.

The Liverpool star and his brother were in a Lamborghini at the time of the crash. A tyre is believed to have blown out while overtaking, causing the car to come off the road, crash and burst into flames.

Jota played an important role in helping Liverpool win the Premier League title last season. He also won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with the Merseyside club having arrived from Wolves in 2020.

He scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the club across all competitions and also earned 49 caps for Portugal.
