The world of football woke up to tragic news on Thursday with the passing away of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota. The Portugal international, who won the Premier League and UEFA Nations League trophies last season, suffered a fatal car accident alongside his brother in the Zamora region of Spain, as per Spanish publication MARCA.
Jota, 28, and his 26-year-old brother Andre, who plays professional football for Penafiel in Portugal's second division, died after the car they were travelling ran off the road and caught fire. The incident happened at kilometre 65 of the A-52 in the province of Zamora in the Sanabria region of Spain.
The news came in as a huge shock to everyone and proves how unpredictable life can be. Jota recently got married to his partner Rute Cardoso and leaves behind three young children.
