Liverpool are mourning the loss of Diogo Jota after the striker died aged just 28 in a car accident in Spain. The Portugal forward and his brother, Andre Silva, passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning.

It's believed his tragic death was due to a tyre blow-out while overtaking another vehicle. The Lamborghini reportedly skidded off the road and burst into flames on the A-52 highway in northwestern Spain.

Emergency services confirmed the two deaths at the scene. Jota was a father to three young children and had just married his long-term partner, Rute Cardoso, less than two weeks ago. The couple also share three dogs together.

Jota proposed to Rute back in July 2022 in a picturesque lakeside setting after they had been together since 2013. Just days ago, they shared pictures of their special day which included them in front of the altar with their children and the couple emerging from the ceremony with a bouquet of flowers.
