Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has taken to Instagram to pay an emotional tribute to teammate Diogo Jota.

The Liverpool forward has tragically passed away at the age of 28 following a car crash in Spain, with the club confirming the news on Thursday. His brother Andre Silva also died in the incident.

Bajcetic, who spent last season on loan at Las Palmas, posted an image in training with Jota on Instagram, writing: "You will be remembered my friend."

The incident took place at 12:30 a.m. local time on Thursday in the Spanish province of Zamora. It happened just weeks after Jota's wedding to long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with the couple having three children together.

A statement from Liverpool read: "Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota. The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.

"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.

"We will continue to provide them with our full support."

Police in Spain have provided the BBC with a verbal statement. It read: "The information we have so far is that the car, which was a Lamborghini, was in a road traffic accident and left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking.

"It was in the early hours in the municipality of Cernadilla in the province of Zamora. The car caught on fire, and the two occupants were killed."

Tributes have also been paid by a number of Premier League clubs, including Everton and Manchester United, while ex-Wolves teammate Raul Jimenez also shared a devastating message.
