Gary Neville left speechless by Nemanja Vidic's dream teammate claim, Sir Alex Ferguson almost made it a reality

Playing for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson usually meant a player would be rubbing shoulders with greatness.

While a great player himself, arguably one of the best of this century in his position, Nemanja Vidic had the privilege of world-class teammates.

Widely considered one of the best defenders in the history of the Premier League, Vidic was a huge part of United’s incredible 2007/08 double-winning side which lifted the Champions League.

Vidic formed a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand which was better than any other anywhere in the world at the time.

Rightfully, the Serbian goes down as a United legend and inspires the next generation, with Leny Yoro admitting he idolises Vidic.

In his time at Old Trafford, Vidic played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes among others. But there is one player he has now admitted he would have loved to have had as a teammate.

Nemanja Vidic names a player he wishes he played with

Having played in the golden era of Manchester United, the name Nemanja Vidic is immortal within the fanbase.

Another to share this honour is Gary Neville, with the former right-back a legend of the Red Devils. Neville has become arguably the biggest name in sports punditry in the UK since retiring, and on his Overlap YouTube channel, Neville has now interviewed Vidic.

More United News

In the ‘quickfire questions’ series, several big United names have been guests, with Vidic the latest. During the interview, Neville asked Vidic, “Who is one player you wish you played with?”

Vidic had an immediate response as he instantly said, “Ronaldinho”.

This left Neville speechless as he remarked, “Oh wow”, before moving on to the next question.

Vidic as a player was not known for his silky skills, but his admiration for Ronaldinho showcases that he appreciates players who can create magic on the pitch.

Unfortunately for Vidic, he never got to play with the Brazilian, but he might have in an alternate universe.

Manchester United almost signed Ronaldinho under Sir Alex Ferguson

Ronaldinho was a sensation in his heyday, and for many, the reason for falling in love with football. Clearly, he also had an admirer in Vidic.

Despite never playing for United, it was claimed that back in 2003, Ronaldinho was close to joining the Red Devils under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Former club CEO David Gill claimed United were never close to signing Ronaldinho, despite popular belief.

If Ronaldinho had joined, it is tough to imagine the devastation that United would have caused in the league with a trio of Ronaldo, Rooney, and Ronaldinho in attack.

Vidic almost had his dream teammate, but he almost did.
