Tributes have been paid to André Filipe Teixeira da Silva after the footballer tragically passed away in a car crash alongside Liverpool star Diogo Jota.

Jota and his brother Andre were both killed after the Lamborghini they were travelling in caught fire.

Local authorities state that the vehicle left the road after blowing a tyre while overtaking another car. It then burst into flames with both men confirmed to have tragically passed away.

And following the sad news of his passing, former club Porto paid tribute to Silva stating: "FC Porto is in mourning. It is with shock and deep sorrow that we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, who was also our athlete in the youth ranks. Rest in peace."

Sporting also stated: "The world of football has become poorer. Sporting CP expresses its sorrow for the passing of the Portuguese international Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva.

"The most heartfelt condolences to all the family in this difficult time."

UEFA have also announced a moment of silence for the brothers.

A statement read: "UEFA announces that a moment of silence will be observed at all of today’s and tomorrow’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 matches in memory of Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva who tragically passed away today."

The 25-year-old spent most of his career playing in the lower leagues in Portugal - most recently playing for FC Penafiel.

He left Porto as a youngster for Boavista - where he made his first-team breakthrough.

He would go on to play for Gondomar SC before joining Penafiel in 2024 and establishing himself as a first-team regular.
