LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar and part-owner of Liverpool FC, expressed his shock and condolences.

"My prayers goes out to his loved ones during this time! May you all be guided and protected! YNWA JOTA!" LeBron shared on X.

A statement from Liverpool FC said the club was devastated by the loss of their player.

"The club have been informed the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre," the official statement reads.

"Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates, and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss."

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020, scoring 68 goals across 182 appearances. He has won all three major English trophies with Liverpool (Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup).
