Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva have tragically died side by side in a car accident.

The world of football is in mourning at the loss of one of its brightest stars in Liverpool ace Jota at just 28. He died alongside his 26-year-old brother after the Lamborghini they were traveling in flew off the road and caught fire.

Spanish police said the supercar's tyre burst as it tried to overtake a car in Zamora, Spain. Heartbreakingly, Jota celebrated his wedding to his childhood sweetheart Rute Cardoso with their three children just 11 days earlier.

While most Britons are aware of Jota and his successful career at Liverpool, not many know about his younger brother Andre, who is also a talented footballer.

He played for Penafiel, a team in the Portuguese second division.

Andre joined the side on July 1, 2023 and mainly plays as an attacking midfielder but is also known to navigate left wing or centre forward positions, such is his ability and flair with the ball. Both Jota and Silva played with Porto at a young age.

Not much is known about Andre's personal life as it is unclear if he had a partner or children.

As the footballing world deals with the loss of one of its brightest stars, tributes from legends of the game have been pouring in.

FC Porto shared a touching tribute to the loss of two "exemplary" men. In a statement. President André Villas-Boas said: “This is a moment of profound dismay for the entire Porto fanbase and for all Portuguese people.

"Two young men tragically lost their lives, two men who represented FC Porto in an exemplary manner and who will be remembered not only for their football but also for their personal and human qualities.

"To the family and friends of Diogo and André, still devastated by the injustice of their untimely loss, I offer my condolences. Football has lost two great men. We are left with the honor of them having represented FC Porto.”

Jamie Carragher wrote on Instagram : "Absolutely devastated by the sad news about Diogo Jota. Thoughts are with his wife Rute and their three kids."

Former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer simply said: "Heartbreaking". Ex-England goalkeeper David Seaman said: "Such devastating loss. My deepest condolences to his family xx".

Diogo Jota's former Wolves team-mate Ruben Neves posted a short tribute on his Instagram story. He said: "They say we only lose people when we forget them. I will never forget you!"
