Underachieving Jaguars veteran is rising and Josh Hines-Allen is paying attention

Star pass rusher Josh Hines-Allen is coming off a somewhat down year but is ready to wreak havoc for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. The former Kentucky Wildcat is back at his playing weight and will get a fresh start under defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile. When you add it all up, nobody will bat an eye if he posts double-digit sacks like he did in 2023. Having said that, he's not the only Jags defender who's poised to bounce back next season.

Hines-Allen made an apperance on FS1's Speak and named Tyson Campbell as a player who'll step up for Jacksonville in 2025, pointing out that the fifth-year cornerback has had the best offseason he's had since he arrived in 2022.

"We talked about Travis, you know, offensive side, you know, we got BTJ, on the defense side, we got Tyson Campbell," Hines-Allen said when discussing Travis Hunter and the Jaguars defense (5:46 mark). "I think Tyson's having his best offseason that I've seen him have since he's been there. And when you have a guy like that at the cornerback position that could take away the No. 1 receiver, and at least Travis had a position to where he could just go in and just play ball and get a lot of opportunities.

Hines-Allen continued, "But we also got a good secondary this year as well. We brought a lot of key players that I'm excited to play with. I know our defense coordinator is going to put them in positions to make it up front, to do good for us up front, and we just gotta get home."

This wasn't the only time Hines-Allen named Campbell as a player who'll step up for the Jags in 2025. He also had an exchange with Rich Eisen and more or less echoed the same thing about the 2021 second-round draft pick.

Tyson Campbell is poised to bounce back and come through for the Jaguars

Campbell was pressed into action as a rookie when the Jacksonville Jaguars traded draft disappointment C.J. Henderson early in the regular season. Although he got off to a rough start, he quickly progressed and finished 2021 strong. The former Georgia Bulldog built off of that, and was even better the following year, registering a team-high three interceptions and 15 passes defensed while giving up less than 10.0 yards per reception.

Expected to solidify his spot as a top-10 cornerback in 2023, Campbell instead dealt with a hamstring injury that forced him to miss time and hampered his performance whenever he suited up. Despite his struggles, he got a premium extension, but injuries once again held him back.

The good news is that Campbell is now the healthiest his been in years. Furthermore, new defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile's system fits him better. He's wasted no time putting together a strong offseason and is poised to reclaim his place as a top cornerback.

Of course, Tyson Campbell's long-term future with the Jags will be in doubt if he once again falls short, but signs point toward him having a career season and validating the team's decision to give him an extension in 2024.
