Diogo Jota has sadly passed away at the age of just 28. The Liverpool star was enjoying some downtime in Zamora, Spain, when the car he was travelling in, a Lamborghini, left the road due to a tire blowout while overtaking. The accident was fatal and also claimed the life of his brother, Andre Silva.
Tributes have been pouring in from the football world. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have both posted tributes, while Liverpool have also released a statement.
Jota's Liverpool teammates have also been posting messages on social media after the Portuguese star's death. Stefan Bajcetic was the first Liverpool player to react. He posted a greyed-out picture of the pair in pre-season training on his Instagram story, alongside the caption: “You will be remembered my friend”.
Darwin Nunez has also reacted. He posted two pictures of himself in training, one in a match and one in training. He also wrote: "There are no words of comfort for so much pain.
I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the field.
"I send all my strength to his family, from where he is I'm sure he will always be with you, especially his wife and three children. Q.E.P.D Diogo y Andre".
