Everton are hunting for a new right-back this summer to end their issues in this position.

Now that David Moyes has officially missed out on Kenny Tete, the Scotsman is looking for different options.

One star who has been linked to Everton is Wesley. The right-back has just been dumped out of the Club World Cup with Flamengo, but has impressed at the Brazilian side.

However, Everton fans may not be too impressed with what the Toffees’ plan is with Wesley.

Everton to buy Wesley and immediately send him to Roma due to FFP issues

Dan Friedkin is not only Everton’s owner, but he also owns Serie A club Roma.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

The Italian side are also keen on Wesley this summer as they have right-back issues of their own.

Therefore, according to Corriere dello Sport, page 14 (3 July), Everton are looking to sign Wesley but will immediately send him to Roma with an obligation to buy.

Wesley’s career at Flamengo to date

Appearances 133

Goals 3

Assists 5

Honours Copa Libertadores x1, Copa do Brasil x1, Supercopa do Brasil x1, Campeonato Carioca x2

Wesley has won plenty in his career despite being just 21 years old

In a scenario described as “sensational” by the outlet, this would allow the Italian side to bypass their FFP troubles while still signing the right-back.

The deal would cost the Toffees £25.9 million, but this would likely be made back in the following summer.

Wesley deal ridiculous from Friedkin

If Friedkin does go through with this deal, it will simply be ridiculous.

Everton are not some club the owner can use to benefit Roma and get around FFP.

If this happens, what is to stop Friedkin from doing this in the future, and even turning the Toffees into a feeder club?

On top of this, Everton are unlikely to benefit from the transfer, and there are a multitude of factors that could go wrong.

Hopefully, Friedkin sees how stupid this idea is and gives up on his pursuit of Wesley for Roma.
