Manchester United’s summer transformation is gathering steam with big-name arrivals, fresh investment under INEOS, and a new focus on long-term structure both on and off the pitch.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team have made it clear they want football minds in football roles — a shift welcomed by supporters who grew tired of commercial figures driving transfer decisions.
Ruben Amorim is set to lead the rebuild from the dugout after a chaotic 2024/25 season, but there is growing interest in who could shape United’s identity in the years to come, particularly from the club’s own legendary figures.

One of those icons, who captained United during a golden era under Sir Alex Ferguson, has now publicly thrown his hat in the ring for a future role at the club — and he isn’t shy about his ambitions.
Speaking to The Overlap, former club captain Nemanja Vidic revealed he would like to return to Manchester United one day — this time as manager.
“If I was to manage or coach anyone, it would have to be Manchester United,” he said.
“I like things when they’re difficult and to change something from difficult to good, this is something I like to do.”
The former Serbian centre-back made 300 appearances for the club, winning 15 major honours including five Premier League titles and the Champions League in 2008.
Nemanja Vidic, now 42, is focusing on raising his family and building a property business but admits football remains close to his heart.
He’s keeping his options open — including potentially becoming Serbia’s FA president, sporting director, or head coach.

“Obviously, what I’m doing outside [of football], business-wise, creating a company which is going to be not just successful but is going to be who I am as well.”
“Everything I do, I like to do the best I can… with the apartments, that’s what I’m trying to achieve as well — to create good apartments and nice buildings I’m proud of.”
On coaching his son, who also plays as a centre-back, Vidic added: “It’s difficult watching my son play football because he’s playing centre-back and I see everything in terms of what he can do better.
I’m the type of person that when I see, I have to say – I can’t keep it to myself.”
“People say, ‘Your son has pressure’ – I don’t think he has any pressure.
“He has an advantage. Everyone knows who his dad is… if you are good, you are good.”
Vidic did return to the Theatre of Dreams for the highly anticipated Soccer Aid 2025 match last month where he featured in the World XI FC.
While Vidic isn’t plotting an immediate return, his dream of managing Manchester United is a reminder that legends of the past still care deeply about shaping the club’s future.
