Douglas Luiz
Douglas Luiz could return to the Premier League this summer
Any prospects of Aston Villa bringing the available Douglas Luiz back to the club could be impacted by the potential of a swap deal involving Juventus and Manchester United. Midfielder Luiz left Villa a year ago for £42m, joining Serie A giants Juve to help the Lions keep within the PSR parameters.
Things ; he made only three league starts in his first season in Italy, and didn't contribute a single goal or assist over the course of the campaign. There are suggestions that new manager Igor Tudor is willing to allow him to leave in this window.
still has four years left on the contract he signed but there is scope for him to leave on loan ahead of the new season; all sorts of clubs have been linked, including Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Fenerbahce, along with Villa, whose president of football operations previously indicated he'd be open to welcoming the player back to the club.
"He’s a playmaker. Every ball that comes out of his feet makes sense. After his farewell we invested well, but I would always take Douglas back, for any club. He’s very strong," Monchi told La Gazzetta dello Sport in November of last year.
"He’s playing less than we would have expected, but we’re talking about a very strong player. Some players make their mark straight away, others need time. You need patience, but Douglas’ qualities are beyond discussion. Last year he played 90 per cent of our games and was decisive."
Now, reports have emerged suggesting that Luiz could return to England and the Premier League - but to Manchester United, who are eager to shift out a number of first-team players who would appear to have no future under manager Ruben Amorim, including former loanee Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho.
The latter spent last season on loan at Chelsea, but they decided to pay a £5m penalty fee to send him back to Old Trafford rather than sign him permanently, but he could - as he has done previously with Borussia Dortmund - head out onto the continent with Juve, who are keen to welcome him to Turin.
They're willing to send United any one of three players, including Luiz, Dusan Vlahovic and Timothy Weah, the latter who has been previously linked with Nottingham Forest. If a move was to materialise, there is the possibility that Luiz could line up against Villa next season.
