Villarreal star Thierno Barry is set for a move to the Premier League with Everton this summer.

The Toffees are looking for a striker following the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who left the club at the end of June after his contract expired.

Barry joined Villarreal last summer from FC Basel, after a positive season with the Swiss giants.

Barry to miss Villarreal friendlies

Barry, 22, enjoyed a decisive first season in the yellow of Villarreal, scoring 11 goals and providing five assists as Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side stormed to a fifth-placed League finish.

At 6’4, the Frenchman is more than capable in the air, and can often be seen holding the ball up to bring his teammates into play.

But with a slight frame, Barry is deceivingly quick, often blindsiding his defender with long, bursting strides into space.

Also a regular for France’s under-21s, the striker took part in the U21 Euros – scoring against Georgia – before Les Bleus’ exit at the hands of Germany in the semi-final.

Barry appears to be a perfect fit for David Moyes’ tactics at Everton, and negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage.

According to Mediterraneo (3 July), the 22-year-old is waiting in Miami for the deal to get over the line, and looks set to miss the start of Villarreal’s preseason, including their friendly matches.

The Yellow Submarines are due to play the side they signed Barry from, Basel, on July 19, before facing Sporting CP.

The striker was prolific for Basel, his 20 goals in just 41 appearances earning him the move to La Liga.

Barry could star for Everton

Barry looks to be custom-made for the Premier League, on paper. The striker is packed with energy and strength, with strong technical ability to match.

It is easy to imagine him combining with the darting midfielders behind him, in Iliman Ndiaye and Carlos Alcaraz, but Moyes could be inclined to pair him with Beto.

The two share similarities in their long, powerful gait and strong nose for the goal, and pairing them could create a nightmarish 90 minutes for any defensive pairing.

More importantly, Barry gives Moyes a new option in attack, and the striker should provide him with a fresh battering ram to help break down the sturdiest doors.
