Manchester United have been given an update of when they could potentially see an agreement reached for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
The club have been working on a deal for the Cameroon international for the last few weeks. An initial bid of £55million was rejected by Brentford. The Manchester Evening News understands that an improved follow-up bid of over £60million was made.
It has been widely reported that the bid was also turned down by Brentford, but talks between the two clubs are ongoing. The player himself is keen on a move to Old Trafford.
The Daily Mail reports that there is optimism within United that an agreement can be reached with Brentford before the end of the week. Discussions are reported to be ongoing over a restructured bid from the club that will see United pay a fee of around £65million.
It is added that Brentford are closing in on a deal for Feyenoord’s Antoni Milambo. The attacking midfielder is joining for a £17million fee plus £4.25m in add-ons and could potentially be seen as a replacement for Mbeumo
If a deal to see the forward move to United is completed in that time, then Mbeumo could potentially join up with his new teammates for the start of pre-season. One player who will be part of that squad is Matheus Cunha.
The former Wolves man completed a £62.5million move to Old Trafford earlier this summer. United are also continuing to work on other deals with the club wanting to sign a new striker this summer.
Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins is the latest to be linked but the reported £60million asking price could be a stumbling block to any move.
