You can rewind to last summer for the beginning of Leeds United's transfer saga with Gustavo Hamer. Now, 12 months on, it could be the transfer which dominates the next few weeks at least as Leeds continue to be linked and the noises coming out of south Yorkshire suggest a deal is there to be done.
Last year Leeds upset then manager Chris Wilder by trying to bring Hamer to Elland Road, with the Blades ultimately managing to keep hold of the player. That may not be so easy this summer with Sheffield United stuck in the Championship and elite league clubs in pursuit of Hamer's signature.
Given their need for a number 10, it was no surprise to see Hamer was again linked with Leeds at the start of the transfer window, but they are not alone. Everton have shown genuine interest in the former Coventry City player, while Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven were talked about as a potential favourite to land his signature and bring the ex-Feyenoord man back to the country. That now looks like it won't be the case.
Reports in the Netherlands by Soccernews, indicate they are being briefed that Hamer is not interested in a return to the Eredivisie and instead has his sights set on returning to the Premier League. That would open the door to Everton and Leeds, with the Whites considered the more likely destination of the two should it be a straight shootout.
While Leeds have previously bid for the player, LeedsLive understands that as things stand there have been no official bids made by the Whites so far this window for Hamer.
