Darwin Nunez pays tribute to Diogo Jota

Nunez has been among the first from the Liverpool group to comment on the situation, as he shared a heartfelt tribute to Jota.

He posted a photo of them together from their time at Liverpool on Instagram with the following caption: “There are no words of comfort for so much pain. I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the pitch.

“I send all my strength to his family, from where he is I’m sure he will always be with you, especially his wife and three children.”

Diogo Jota’s incredible Liverpool career

Jota joined Liverpool from Wolves in September 2020 in a surprise £45m deal and quickly established himself as a fan favourite at the club.

He hit the ground running with a goal on his debut against Arsenal after coming off the bench, followed by a hat-trick against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Jota brought a different dimension to the centre-forward position in Klopp’s team with his pace, intelligent movement, and an eye for goal.

While he has not always been a starter at the club due to the attacking depth of the Liverpool squad, he always delivered, becoming a key part of the success under Jurgen Klopp, who called him a ‘perfect signing’ and Arne Slot.

Over five seasons at Anfield, Jota made 182 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 65 goals and assisting 26.

Jota delivered several memorable moments for Liverpool and played a key role in their domestic cup double in the 2021–22 season, scoring crucial goals in both the League Cup and FA Cup campaigns, and helping the Reds lift silverware at Wembley.
