Newcastle United midfielder Sean Longstaff is seeking for clarity on his future at the club, NUFCBLOG understands.
The 27-year-old has one year left on his contract, and sources close to the player and his representatives have revealed he hopes to have a decision made within the next three weeks.
The bulk of the squad will be called back into action at Darsley Park next Monday, with those involved in international duty over June granted extra time off.
NUFCBLOG understands Longstaff is attracting interest from at least three clubs, including Leeds United, Everton and an unnamed overseas club, who have all be in contact with his agency, Gol International.
Financially, the deal would represent pure profit, with the midfielder being a product of the club’s academy – so any deal would help future proof Newcastle’s spending.
The club will look for around £10m, but would be open to negotiating as insiders feel like this summer is the right time to sell given his contract situation, reduced game time and the emergence of Lewis Miley.
Longstaff has dropped down the pecking order and hasn’t started a league game since a 4-2 defeat at Brentford last December, with Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Joelinton, Joe Willock and Miley all seemingly ahead of him.
Eddie Howe has always spoken highly of Longstaff’s work ethic and tactical discipline but in a squad that’s still needs to improve technically to consistently qualify for the Champions League and take the club forward in domestic competitions, it may be sensible to move the midfielder on.
NUFCBLOG revealed earlier today that Newcastle have shown interest in Fiorentina midfielder Amir Richardson. The left-sided 23-year-old is more likely to be targeted should Willock depart, but options are being explored should a sale be made in this department.
