Arsenal bid for Valencia player not as high as previously thought

Arsenal’s bid for Cristhian Mosquera isn’t as high as many sources have claimed, according to one Valencia-based journalist.

Valencia journalist Hector Gomez reports that Cristhian Mosquera has rejected a contract offer from his current club, amid interest from Arsenal.

The Gunners were widely reported to have submitted an initial bid in the region of €14m (£12.1m) for Mosquera, and they were expected to make another offer in the coming days.

Yet Gomez claims that second offer has already gone in, and it only slightly exceeded €10m (£8.6m).

According to Gomez, Arsenal never made a €14m bid for Mosquera, and even their second bid isn’t close to that valuation. He adds that Valencia are insisting on a fee of €20m (£17.2m) to let the defender leave.

If true, this update would put the two clubs are lot further apart than previously believed. A valuation difference of £5m is one thing, but now we’re looking at £8m+ between the two clubs, almost a 100% increase on Arsenal’s current offer.

The English media are yet to pick up the story at the time of writing, however, so Gomez is the only source of these reduced bid claims.

Fabrizio Romano was among those to confirm the €14m valuation of Arsenal’s first bid, and he’s yet to provide an update on the new reports.

As well as rejecting Valencia’s contract offer, Mosquera has reportedly agreed personal terms with Arsenal. But if the two clubs can’t reach an agreement, the player still has a deal with the Spanish club until 2026.
