New Liverpool star creating pathways for young players

NEW Liverpool star Jeremie Frimpong is looking to create pathways for young players. The Dutch international and former Bayer Leverkusen ace has launched Pathways Tournament x Career Fair – a groundbreaking initiative from his charitable organisation Pathways, aimed at helping young players exiting football academies discover new career opportunities.

Pathways is a charitable initiative founded by Frimpong to support young players transitioning out of professional football academies. Through practical tools, real-world exposure, and a network of mentors and companies, Pathways builds bridges to new futures — inside or outside sport.

Football gave me a chance, and now I want to give others a second shot — on or off the pitch

This first-of-its-kind event series redefined what post-academy support looks like by blending competitive football tournaments with interactive career fairs. As players compete on the pitch, just steps away were stalls from industry-leading companies offering internships, job placements, work experience, and mentorship opportunities across tech, finance, media, construction, logistics, sport business and more.

Partners included ESPN, Tenzing, Bransmiths, UCFB, ING, Life Skills NL, Talento Today, Player App, Football Beyond Borders, Sky Sports and many more. There were some 50 stalls across all locations, while around 2,000 free tickets were reserved by attendees. Due to high demand and limited venue capacity, Pathways is already planning for larger venues in 2026.

GOOD TIMES: Frimpong with some of tournament’s players

The Pathways Tournament x Career Fair toured four cities deeply connected to Jeremie’s life journey:

Cologne – His adopted home during his Bundesliga breakthrough

Utrecht – A nod to his Dutch roots and early development

Manchester – Where his football career began at Manchester City’s academy

Accra – A tribute to his Ghanaian heritage and the final stop on this transformational tour at each location, new Liverpool star Frimpong was present throughout the events, meeting partners, participants, speaking to families, and highlighting the importance of identity, resilience, and reinvention beyond football.

The visionary behind the Pathways project is Cedrick Ofori, Frimpong’s commercial manager. Formerly of Goldman Sachs, and also Manchester City’s academy Ofori left the corporate world to bring high-level strategy and purpose to athlete branding and impact work. With Pathways, he has delivered an unprecedented blueprint – one where community empowerment, corporate opportunity, and elite sport exist side by side.

Ofori said: “ We want to put out more options, real mentors, and real futures directly next to the game these players love.”
