Horrifying footage of Diogo Jota's fireball-engulfed Lamborghini has emerged after the Liverpool ace was killed in a crash.

The Portuguese international, 28, and his brother Andre Silva, 26, tragically died when they lost control of the supercar due to a tyre blowout while overtaking in Zamora, northern Spain at around 00.30 this morning. The pair were en route to Santander to catch a ferry to the UK with plans to continue on to Liverpool.

They couldn't get a plane because Jota had been issued medical advice against air travel following a lung surgery. The horrifying footage was recorded from a vehicle as it passed the blazing wreckage and published by CNN Portugal.

At the start of the video, the bright flames illuminate a section of the pitch black A52 a few hundred yards from the camera. As the lens nears and the driver slows down, it becomes clear the source of the blaze is just off the left hand side of the road.

The Lamborghini has been destroyed beyond all recognition as the wreckage doesn't even resemble a car. Just as the camera starts to pass the site of the crash, the video ends.

The Liverpool star was travelling by car after being told by medics he shouldn’t catch a plane after the surgery. CNN Portugal's sports editor Rui Laura said today live on air: “The surgery he had had was lung surgery and he had been advised against flying following this.

“He was on his way to the northern Spanish port city of Santander to cross the ferry and reach the UK that way and carry on with the car once he reached Britain.

Another Portuguese journalist, Victor Pinto told the country’s CMTV channel: “Diogo Jota sometimes chose to travel by road because he had some pulmonary discomfort, nothing serious, and as we know, there is a ferry boat that connects the south of England to Spain’s Cantabria region.

"The information we have is that he was going to take a ferry to Santander, so this means it wasn't exactly a road trip from England to Portugal.

“In this case, Diogo Jota would have made the ferry trip with his brother.”

Police said that the car they were travelling in - a Lamborghini - left the road due to a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle. Their car then caught fire.

According to El Pais, the fire damage to the bodies prevented the necessary tests from being carried out to confirm beyond any doubt that the two victims were the Liverpool star and his brother.
