Nemanja Vidic names Man Utd teammate he clashed with,'I had one bust-up...'

Nemanja Vidic was one of the fiercest centre-backs to play for Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

There is no disputing that Nemanja Vidic was one of the best centre-backs to have played in the Premier League.

Aged 24, Vidic joined Manchester United from Russian side Spartak Moscow. He would go on to spend eight-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford, becoming club captain and one of the club’s greatest defenders of all-time.

During his time at United, Vidic formed a formidable partnership in defence with Rio Ferdinand and they won multiple trophies together, including the Premier League and Champions League double in 2008.

Vidic will be remembered for putting his head where most players wouldn’t dare put their feet. He was a fierce centre-back who took no prisoners on the pitch.

The Serb has opted for a quieter life since retiring from football to focus on studying and developing his skills. Only time will tell if Vidic decides to return to football at some point, perhaps in a coaching capacity.

On the latest episode of The Overlap, Vidic reveals the one player he had a ‘bust-up’ with in the dressing room during his time at United.

Vidic was a fighter on the pitch but he strikes as cool and collected off it, especially in his interviews years after retiring.

That would explain why he only recalls being involved in one bust-up during his time at Old Trafford.

When asked if he ever scrapped with a teammate by Gary Neville in a quickfire round of questions, Vidic said: “At Manchester United, I had one bust-up in the changing room and that was with Anderson.”

Vidic was eager to downplay the incident as minor. He added: “It was something on the pitch then it got transferred to the dressing room. It was no big deal.”

Like Vidic, Anderson spent eight years at United. The Brazilian did not have the same impact as the defender, but his arrival from FC Porto sparked excitement.

Patrice Evra reflects on fallout with Vidic

Patrice Evra will tell a completely different story about Vidic after an infamous fallout took place for over three months during their time as teammates at Old Trafford.

Four years ago, Evra revealed how he and Vidic refused to talk after they got into a fight.

Evra told ManUtd.com in 2021: “To be honest, we also fought. We had a fight, me and him, and didn’t speak for three months.

“We played together and we didn’t even say a word. I never told him to go left or go right. He was the same. Ferguson had to swap Rio Ferdinand to play on the left side with me.

“It was like that for three months until, after a game, I remember he came to me in the dressing room and gave me a high-five. Everyone was like ‘finally’ because we were best friends together, Vida and me. We have a deep story together.”
