The Liverpool players have paid tribute to their teammate and friend Diogo Jota.

The pain that the Reds players must be going through right now is unimaginable following the death of their close teammate.

Jota was travelling with his brother, Andre Silva, in a car in Spain before it caught fire, with the accident being fatal.

The 28-year-old was only married two weeks ago to his partner Rute Cardosa, with the couple having three children together.

The news has shaken the footballing world but none more so than the Liverpool squad, with the players starting to flood social media with their messages of support for his family.

Liverpool players pay tribute to Diogo Jota

The Liverpool squad are like a tight-knit family, and this is evident when they play together on the pitch.

This news has, as most would imagine, affected the Reds’ players significantly, with their emotions being heightened at this sensitive time.

Alexis Mac Allister has been one of the first to pay tribute, writing on his Instagram: “I can’t believe it. I will always remember your smiles, your anger, your intelligence, your companionship and everything that made you a person. It hurts a lot, we will miss you. Rest in peace dear Diogo.”

The Argentine’s midfield partner Dominik Szoboszlai was one of the next to offer his condolences, showing just how much this has impacted the whole team.

“Words cannot describe how heartbroken and devastated we are… Your smile, your love for the game will never be forgotten,” the Hungarian wrote.

Harvey Elliott’s heartfelt message for Diogo Jota

Harvey Elliott is a player who knew Jota best, with the Englishman joining the season before the Portuguese star.

He also took the time to write a lovely message on his Instagram account, with the 22-year-old’s post truly heart-breaking.

“Diogo, I can’t believe you’re gone. It’s hard to put into words how much this hurts us,” Elliott wrote.

“You were an incredible footballer, the kind that made a difference every single time you stepped on the field. You were humble, hardworking, kind and always there for anyone that needed anything.

“I feel so lucky to have shared the pitch with you, shared memories and moments I’ll carry with me forever. You’ll always be part of this team, part of the Liverpool family. We will never, ever forget you.

“My heart goes out to your whole family. Love you brother. Rest easy Diogo and Andre. You’ll Never Walk Alone.”
