Report: Everton now working on £26m deal to sign Pep Guardiola target, but he wants Manchester…

Manchester City can now turn their attention back firmly towards recruitment after a shock exit from the FIFA Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola watched his side suffer a 4-3 defeat against Al Hilal at the Round of 16 stage in the United States, sending the Citizens back to the Etihad Stadium earlier than many would have expected.

Hugo Viana – Director of Football at Manchester City – worked hard to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders before the tournament began, although the Portuguese negotiator now faces a challenge from Everton in his search to land a new right-back in Wesley.

Everton now attempting to sign Wesley

Gianluca Di Marzio now states that Everton are trying to sign the Flamengo No.43 in collaboration with Roma.

It is said that the Toffees are eager to sign the South American in a €30m (£26m) deal, before loaning the defender to Roma – who are also owned by The Friedkin Group – for the 2025/26 campaign.

However, Brazilian news outlet Coluna do Fla have already claimed that Wesley is keen to join Manchester City after meeting with the Citizens, and has given the green light over a move to the Etihad Stadium.

This, coupled with the fact Manchester City can offer the 21-year-old UEFA Champions League football and a greater chance of silverware than he would have at Everton, should see the Toffees fended off.

Everton could turn to Kyle Walker if Wesley moves to Manchester City

Like Manchester City, David Moyes is desperate for a new right-back.

Everton had agreed a deal for Kenny Tete before the Dutchman surprisingly signed a new deal with Fulham, so that position is clearly one marked as being in need of improvement at Goodison Park.

Wesley – who Brighton also bid for – is seemingly the backup option to Tete, but if the Brazil international joins Manchester City, it could see Everton turn attention back towards Kyle Walker.

Everton are aware Walker is available after a disappointing loan spell at AC Milan last season, and whilst he did not seem to be the first choice for Moyes, the England international could be approached as Tete and now, most likely, Wesley slip out of reach.
