Tottenham star Cristian Romero is potentially heading for the exit doors in the coming weeks
Tottenham star Cristian Romero has been in the media spotlight for quite some time now. The headlines suggest that the Argentina international is facing an uncertain future at N17 following Ange Postecoglou’s sack decision. With the Lilywhites relying heavily on the 27-year-old at the back, Daniel Levy is trying to do his best and keep Romero at the club for next season.
The prolific centre-back has matured a lot since making the switch from Atalanta in 2021. He has become a leader in the dressing room, and his performances in big games have made him a fan favourite at the club. Not only that, but Romero’s presence at the back is reassuring as the centre-back is there to cover up the spaces if any of his teammates make a mistake.

The 27-year-old’s performance in the Europa League final was a sight for sore eyes. The Argentina international did not let the opponent through and also earned the Man of the Match award for his contribution. Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister also admitted earlier last month that Romero is the ‘best centre-back in the world’ as of now. These are some big praises, and it is not a surprise that top clubs are looking to sign him.
Tottenham star Cristian Romero is wanted by Real Madrid
Tottenham fans will hope that Cristian Romero spends another season at N17 as the club looks to build on the Europa League success next season. With Thomas Frank aiming to compete on four fronts, the Lilywhites must do everything they can to keep hold of their most valuable asset in the summer.
It was reported earlier that Romero is linked with a move to Atletico Madrid in the summer. The Argentina international has raised a lot of eyebrows by performing consistently week in week out. The aforementioned report also stated that Diego Simeone is ‘desperate’ to land the centre-back in the coming weeks, and he is willing to break the bank for his signature.

However, there is a twist in the transfer saga involving the 27-year-old. As per CaughtOffside, Real Madrid are planning to beat rivals Atletico Madrid for Cristian Romero’s signature. The Spurs defender is open to move to the Santiago Bernabeu if the Spanish giants meet the asking price set by the Lilywhites for Romero’s signature. The aforementioned report adds that Daniel Levy has placed a €70m asking price for the Argentinian and would not accept a penny less for his services.

It remains to be seen how the situation involving the ex-Atalanta star evolves as we approach the business-end of the transfer window in a few weeks’ time. The Lilywhites need to be prepared to find a replacement quickly if they lose Cristian Romero in the summer. It was reported earlier that the North London club is interested in signing Crystal palace star Marc Guehi for next season. Daniel Levy views him as a perfect replacement of Romero, and believes that he has all the attributes to become a top defender for the club.
