UEFA have approved a request made by the Portuguese FA regarding A Selecao das Quinas' Euro 2025 fixture with Spain following the shocking death of Diogo Jota.
The Liverpool forward tragically passed away in the early hours of Thursday morning after being involved in a road traffic accident in north-western Spain. His brother Andre, who was also in the vehicle, also lost his life.
As the football world continues to mourn both men, it has been reported that there will now be a tribute to the pair before the EURO 2025 match-up this evening.

The Portuguese FA announced their intentions to pay tribute to the two former footballers
According to Sky News' Rob Harris, it has been confimed that UEFA have approved a request from the Portuguese FA for a minute's silence to be held before Portugual's fixture against Spain on Thursday evening.
It had previously been revealed via a statement from the Portuguese FA that the request had been made, with the statement reading:
"The Portuguese Football Federation expresses its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Diogo and Andre Silva, as well as to Liverpool FC and FC Penafiel, the clubs where the players respectively played. The Portuguese Football Federation has already requested UEFA to hold a minute of silence, this Thursday, before our National Team’s match against Spain in the Women’s European Championship."
In response, UEFA have confirmed their plans, saying:
"UEFA announces that a moment of silence will be observed at all of today’s and tomorrow’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 matches in memory of Portugal international and Liverpool FC forward Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva who tragically passed away today."
The Group B tie is set to kick off at 8pm BST and will mark the two countries' first game at this summer's tournament.
As well as having represented Portugal on 49 occasions during his career, Jota also had links to Spain during his career. The forward spent a period of his career at Atletico Madrid, joining in 2016 but failing to make a single competitive appearance before being permanently sold to Wolves in 2018.
