Diogo Jota's death is reportedly being investigated by Spanish police as a "possible speeding incident" after the Liverpool forward, 28, died in a car crash. Jota's brother, Andre, was also in the car at the time and was also killed.

The crash occurred on the Rias Bajas Highway (A-52) in Spain, near Palacios de Sanabria, heading towards Benavente. Police confirmed the incident happened at 12:30am, with the Lamborghini veered off the road following a burst tyre.

It has since been reported by the PA news agency, through a statement from a Spanish government source, that the police are investigating the crash as a "possible speeding incident". The force added that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Jota was a much-loved member of the Liverpool squad and had most recently helped the Merseyside outfit to a record-equalling 20th league title. In a statement released by the current Premier League champions, they expressed their devastation at the news of Jota's passing.

Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and request the privacy of Diogo and Andre's family, friends, teammates and club staff is respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss."
